Weekend

Today we have been to great granny's house. It has been a while since we saw her. Everytime we have arranged anything we have had to postpone due to someone being ill, or the awful weather we have had this year.
Andrew and Dad were there too which was nice and probably helpful for Great Granny as they had moved all the ornaments to preserve them from small, unsteady hands. And of course they then had to put it all back when we left!
Miraculously the kids were pretty impeccably behaved! They didn't trash the place and were not rude or whiney. Thank goodness! Granny upset J by pointing out how much weight he has put on since she last saw him! You've got to love the bluntness of people particularly those who can hide behind the "elderly" label. It was pretty funny though!
Great granny gave Rachel two little dolls that had been mine (maybe even Mum's) when I was little which Rachel loved!
True to form, as soon as we left granny's the kids both went into meltdown...Jack was particularly awful right until after bath time! But at least they hadn't misbehaved in front of great granny and Uncle Andrew! As for Grandad, he has had the pleasure of witnessing the worst temper tantrums of our kids enough times already!
Sunday was horse riding day and for the first time yet there was no snow, rain or wind! In fact it was beautiful. Rachel had 4 less layers on her top half and she didn't complain of the cold, or cry when she had to stand and watch me! She brought her new babies to sit with her for the second half hour, as well as some juice, Jaffa cakes and a, well, a dinosaur! I think maybe she even enjoyed sitting there watching me which was lovely.
Afterwards, we headed home for a wash! J had been busy tidying the house and getting the lunch ready while we were out and after a nice bath I set about making a lemon tart, or more exotic sounding, a tarte au citron for dessert. It's a nightmare doing desserts in this house with J the pastry chef looking over your shoulder. He rarely comments but it still drives you insane and makes you paranoid! Luckily I managed to kick him into the garden with the kids for a bit and personally I think my tarte has turned out pretty amazing. But as they say, the proof is in the pudding, so we will see what it ends up looking and tasting like later!
Lunch was beautiful - roast lamb dinner, and our late afternoon tarte was yummy, even if I do say so myself. On the downside, J managed to take a chunk out of his finger trying to get the tarte out of its dish.
After sorting out all the washing I managed to get a bit more of the mural on Jack's wall done, and time flew by until it was way past bedtime for Jack so J took the both up together. So now,I am sitting, feet up on the sofa, listening to Jack chatting away on his monitor and watching Midsomer murders, whilst wondering where another weekend has gone....
